Water heater installation
Hot water, done right
Water heater installation replaces a failing or undersized tank with a new unit matched to your household, connected to gas, water, and venting the way code requires, so it runs safely and lasts.
In Elgin, TJM has installed water heaters since 2005, from single gas tanks to twin power-vent setups. Todd Mendoza is a licensed plumber, and every install includes haul-away of the old unit and a full check of the connections before we leave.

How do you know it is time to replace your water heater?
Watch for four signs: the tank is past ten years old, hot water runs out faster than it used to, the water comes out rusty or smells metallic, or you see moisture and rust around the base. A rumbling or popping tank is another warning, because that is sediment baking on the burner. One of these signs alone might just mean a repair, but two or more usually means the tank is on its way out. Water heaters are one of the most common calls our Elgin plumbers take, and we will tell you straight whether yours needs repair or replacement.
What size and type of water heater should you get?
Match the heater to the household, not the sticker price. A family of five that runs the dishwasher during showers needs a bigger tank, or a second one, compared to a couple in a ranch home. Fuel and venting matter too. Standard gas tanks vent up a flue, while power-vent units push exhaust out a side wall, which is often the right call in finished basements. The Department of Energy publishes a plain guide to sizing a new water heater, and we walk the same math with you on site. We have installed everything from single tanks to twin Rheem power-vent setups.
From leaking old tank to steady hot water, handled in one visit
Sized for your home, installed to code, and hauled away by a licensed, family-owned Elgin crew.
Call (847) 809-9316What happens on installation day?
We drain and disconnect the old tank, haul it away, set the new unit, and make the water, gas, and vent connections to code. Then we fill it, fire it, check for leaks, and test the temperature and pressure relief valve before we call it done. Most installs are finished the same day. While we are there, many customers have us look at other nagging problems, and slow or gurgling drains are the most common one. Our drain cleaning service can usually handle those on the same visit, so you get two fixes for one trip.
Should a licensed plumber install your water heater?
Yes, and this is one job where cutting corners bites hard. A water heater combines gas, flame, exhaust, and water under pressure in one appliance. Bad venting can push exhaust into your home, a missing expansion fitting can stress your whole plumbing system, and a mis-set relief valve is a genuine safety hazard. TJM is licensed, bonded, and insured, we install to code, and we photograph the job before, during, and after so you can see exactly what was done. That is how we have kept Elgin families in hot water since 2005.

Straight answers to plumbing questions
How much does water heater installation cost in Elgin?
It depends on the size, the fuel type, and the venting your home needs. Estimates are free. We look at your setup, explain the options, and give you a clear price before any work starts.
How long does a water heater installation take?
Most standard replacements are done in a single visit. Swapping venting styles or moving the tank takes longer. We tell you what your job involves and how long it should run before we start.
Gas or electric, which water heater is better?
It usually comes down to what your home already has. Gas heats faster and costs less to run in most homes here, while electric is simpler to install. We size and price both so you can compare.
What is a power-vent water heater?
It uses a small fan to push exhaust out through a side-wall pipe instead of a chimney flue. That makes it a strong choice for finished basements or homes where the old flue no longer meets code.
Do you haul away the old water heater?
Yes. Every installation includes draining, disconnecting, and hauling away the old unit. You are not left wrestling a rusty 50 gallon tank up the basement stairs after we leave. It is part of the job.
Can you replace a water heater the same day it fails?
Often, yes. We are open 24 hours and keep common sizes in reach, so call any time, day or night. Once we see your setup we will tell you honestly what the timeline looks like.
