Drain cleaning
Clogs cleared, causes found
Drain cleaning rods out the clog that is slowing your kitchen sink, tub, toilet, or main sewer line, so wastewater flows the way it should instead of backing up into your home.
In Elgin, TJM goes one step further. Every sewer rodding includes a free camera inspection, so after the line is clear you see the inside of your own pipe on a monitor. If the clog was just grease, you know it. If roots or a crack caused it, you know that too, with proof instead of guesswork. We have rodded lines here since 2005.

Why do drains keep clogging over and over?
Because most quick fixes only poke a hole through the clog instead of removing it. Grease, soap scum, and food waste keep building on the walls of the pipe, so the drain slows again within weeks. Chemical cleaners are worse, since they burn through the soft center of a blockage and leave the hard buildup behind while eating at older pipes. Rodding scrapes the blockage out of the line so the full pipe diameter flows again. Drain work is a core service of our plumbing services in Elgin, and if one fixture keeps clogging we find out why instead of just rodding it monthly.
What causes main sewer line clogs?
In this area, tree roots top the list. Roots hunt for water, and they find it at the joints of older clay and cast iron sewer lines, then grow inside the pipe like a net that catches everything you flush. Grease, wipes, and pipe bellies cause the rest. Blocked lines are serious enough that the EPA tracks sanitary sewer overflows nationwide, and roots and grease are among the leading causes it cites. This is exactly why our free camera inspection with every sewer rodding matters. Once the line is clear, the camera shows whether roots, a sag, or a break caused the clog, so you know if it will be back.
Every sewer rodding includes a free camera inspection
Your line rodded clear, then proven clear on a monitor, by a family-owned Elgin crew. No guesswork.

Then the pipe itself is the problem, and the camera footage from your free inspection shows exactly where and why. A line that clogs every few months usually has roots at a joint, a low sag that collects waste, or a section that has cracked or shifted. Rodding buys time in those cases, but it cannot fix broken pipe. When that is what the camera finds, our sewer line repair crew fixes the damaged section, and because you have seen the footage yourself, you are deciding based on proof instead of a stranger's word.
Do businesses need routine drain cleaning?
Restaurants, shops, and commercial kitchens benefit from it more than anyone. A three compartment sink and a busy floor drain move grease and debris all day, and a backed up line during service hours costs real money. Scheduled rodding keeps commercial lines flowing before they fail, instead of after. TJM handles both residential and commercial drain work across Elgin and the surrounding towns in Kane, Cook, and DuPage counties, and we are open 24 hours, so a clog at closing time does not have to wait for morning. Straight answers to plumbing questions
How much does drain cleaning cost in Elgin?
It depends on which drain is clogged and how hard the blockage is to reach. We give you a clear price before the work starts, and every sewer rodding includes the camera inspection at no extra charge.
Is the camera inspection really free?
Yes. Every sewer rodding we do includes a camera inspection of the line at no added cost. You watch the monitor with us and see the condition of your own pipe before deciding anything further.
Why is my toilet gurgling when the sink drains?
Gurgling means air is being pulled through the toilet because the line past it is partly blocked. It is an early warning sign of a main line clog, and the best time to rod is before it backs up.
Are chemical drain cleaners safe to use?
We do not recommend them. They rarely remove the whole blockage, they are rough on older metal pipes, and they make the line hazardous for whoever opens it next. Rodding removes the clog instead of melting part of it.
How often should a main sewer line be rodded?
A healthy line should not need routine rodding. If yours clogs every few months, something inside the pipe is causing it, usually roots or a sag. The free camera inspection shows the cause so you can fix it once.
Can you clear a clogged drain at night or on weekends?
Yes. TJM is open 24 hours, every day. A main line backup does not wait for Monday, so call any time, day or night, and you will reach our crew, not a machine.
